Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is one of just five Level 1 trauma centers in Virginia, home to the Nightingale Regional Air Ambulance and the region’s first Magnet hospital and nationally ranked heart program at the Sentara Heart Hospital. The hospital sits on the Eastern Virginia Medical Campus which serves as the primary teaching institution. Sentara Norfolk General and the Heart Hospital offers Transplant Services: Heart, Kidney, and Pancreas. We are a Certified Stroke Center and the only Level 3 Epilepsy Center in the area.

The Sentara Heart Hospital, a 112-bed care facility, is #2 for Cardiology services and Heart Surgery in the State of Virginia and ranks #24 in the nation for best heart programs.
Department Overview:
* 24 bed Specialty Unit that provides high acuity cardiac care to patients with severe heart failure, pre/post heart transplant, the Total Artificial Heart, and pulmonary hypertension.
* Work with high tech equipment such as mechanical circulatory support including ventricular assist devices (LVAD, BiVAD) and telemetry monitors.
* Environment relies on 24 hours consistent communication and intricate interdisciplinary teamwork skills.
* Nurses handle 3-4 patients on this unit based on acuity level.

Education: Diploma RN, associate degree RN, bachelor’s degree RN, or master’s degree RN.
All Direct Care RNs are required to have BLS within 90 days of hire.
RN License Virginia or Compact/Multi-State Eligible.

Job Summary
The Registered Nursing (RN) is responsible to perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. The standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation) along with the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence- based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health) encompass the actions and foundation of professional nursing.
